No! The fact is you really can make money online using Amazon’s Mechanical Turk (Mturk) program. I know this because I’ve done it!
How does Mturk Work?
Amazon’s Mechanical Turk is a program that allows its members to complete small tasks, called HITs, for compensation. Most HITs are surveys, or other small tasks that companies need performed. These companies use Amazon’s Mturk program because they can get their tasks completed without having to pay a lot for time and labor. The HITs can vary widely in time needed to complete, and the amount of compensation given for completing the HIT.
How much money can you make with Mturk?
The amount of money that you can make with Mturk varies. Most HITs pay only a few cents for completing, so you really need to invest significant time into the program if you intend to make real income. With that being said, there are lots of experienced Mturkers who make close to $100 per day.
If you intend to reach the $100 per day mark prepare to pull some very long 18 hour days in front of your computer.
In my opinion, the Mturk program is best served as a way of making some extra income in your spare time. When I was an active Mturker, I did it to make a little extra spending money. Whenever I had a little free time, I would log into my Mturk account and complete some HITs that I felt were worth my time and effort. My best day netted me a little over $20. When my account balance would reach $100, I would withdraw it to my bank account and have some extra spending money.
Making money online
Mturk was a nice way to make some extra money while I used it, but what I really wanted was a way to make a real sustainable income online that wouldn’t have me slaving away in front of my computer for 18 hours per day.
